Here in the lazy, hazy days of Summer, it is tempting to sit back, relax, and enjoy the fruits of our labor. With Summer’s heat upon us, who can blame us for congratulating ourselves for the work we have done and taking a well-deserved break? But the way the world defines success is not the way God would. What, in the end, matters to God? Gathering today in the Lord’s name, let us reflect on what really matters in this world.
Traditionally on a Mission Weekend, we are host to a missionary who shares with us the joys and challenges of churches in mission countries. This weekend we welcome special guest, Brother Donald Tardif, a member of Brothers of the Sacred Heart. The Brothers of the Sacred Heart are religious educators who staff schools and other establishments on over thirty countries. Your contribution will especially benefit needy students in the African Countries of Kenya, Lesotho, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Please be as generous as you can.
This weekend is the farewell weekend for our parishioner Jessie Babcock. Jessie was accepted to Corpus Christi Monastery of the Poor Clares in Rockford IL. We have been happy to have Jessie in our parish for the last year, and we wish her to be happy in pursuing her religious vocation. You can read Jessie’s farewell in the Chimes. God bless you, Jessie!
This coming Wednesday, August 7th I will go for my vacation. This time my visit to the family will be very special because my nephew Szymon is getting married and I was asked to preside this wedding mass. It will be a very special occasion for the family to meet together and have fun and joy! I will be back on August 28th. Thanks to Fr. Rob Irwin for substituting for me in this time.
May God bless us and our loved ones for the rest of the summer.
