As we turn our calendars to December, we begin the season of preparation for Jesus’ coming into the world and into our lives. However, Advent is not only a time in which we wait for the Lord to come to us; we are reminded today that our lives should be a journey as well, a journey to God. Even as we prepare for the Lord’s coming at Christmas, let us also continue walking our own path to the Lord.
As we prepare our hearts for Christmas we do acts of goodness toward our brothers and sisters, especially those less fortunate. St. Bernardine Parish again wants to organize a project which will help the homeless – a giving tree project. You can find the tree in the church next to the south exit. On the attached cards, you will find the exact items that are needed. Please take one or more cards, and bring your gift to the church. Volunteers from Housing Forward will take them and distribute to the homeless.
Traditionally, we order an Advent and Christmas Seasons Booklet titled “The Little Blue Book.” It invites us to offer six minutes a day to reflect on the Scripture in Advent and Christmas seasons. It is a pretty “easy to do” challenge. Please feel free to take one booklet per family. Booklets are available at each entrance to the church.
Our preparation for Christmas is a process with occurs in small steps toward the feast. One very important step is our participation in the Sacrament of Reconciliation when we ask God for forgiveness and healing. The Advent Reconciliation Service will take place on Tuesday, December 10th at 7:00 pm. in the church. All are welcome.
St. Bernardine Parish is blessed to have three R.C.I.A. members who are looking for full communion with the Catholic Church. At the beginning of 10:30 Mass, we will celebrate Rite of Acceptance of our R.C.I.A. members Amanda Ball, Sheri Daniel, and Jennifer Portillo. Please keep our R.C.I.A. program and our catechumens in your prayers.
After all Masses this weekend the Sacrament Of The Sick will be given to all in need of healing. Please don’t hesitate to stay and ask God for strength and health.
At the exits of the church, you will find calendars for AD 2020, sponsored by Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home. Big thanks to the director, Kevin Harnett, for his generous gift to our parishioners.
The Advent wreath has been blessed, and we have started the journey towards Christmas. May God bless all of us in this holy season.
