Forty days after Jesus was born, in accordance with the Torah, Mary and Joseph brought him in the temple in Jerusalem to be presented to the Lord. What they could not have known is that Simeon and Anna recognize in the six-week-old child the Savior of the world. As we celebrate this special feast today, let us challenge ourselves to recognize Jesus in the faces of those we meet.
Some time ago we installed a new sound system in our church. It is working well so far and helps us enjoy the liturgy. A part of this system is ALS (Assisted Listening System). It contains four hearing aid sets, directly connected to an amplifier in the sacristy. If anyone wishes to use these hearing aids, simply ask ushers before mass, and it will be given to you. These are not take-home devices, so after mass please give it back to the ushers.
Tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel we will adore the Blessed Sacrament in our monthly Holy Hour. All are welcome to participate in this adoration.
A word about the candles. As you may know, we have stations set up for parishioners to light a candle and say a prayer for loved ones. So that we may keep our candle inventory stocked, we ask for a donation, per candle, of $3.50. This covers the cost of the candle and is not a source of income for our parish. In recent months, however, we have noticed that what has been donated versus what we are spending in candles is not in balance, and we are at a deficit this fiscal year of over $700.00 to date. Please consider this a gentle reminder to use the donation boxes located at each candle station so that we may continue to supply candles for everyone.
God bless you,
