We conclude the Christmas season today with the feast of the Lord’s baptism. Saint Luke has already told us how the angels, the shepherds, and the magi have attested to the holiness of this child. Today we hear God call out from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Let us each reflect today on our own baptism, when we were recognized as a child of God. May God be well pleased.
The Christmas Season liturgy is ended. Until Ash Wednesday we will be in an Ordinary Time. One more time I would like to give thanks to all who were involved in the liturgy and decorating the church. Well Done! Thanks for your participation in masses and your generosity.
St. Bernardine Parish received a letter of thanks from Retirement Fund for Religious for our donation of $1,838.00. Our donation continues to make it possible for religious communities to provide quality care for their retired members who selflessly served the People of God through years of dedicated service. They assured us of the prayers of Religious, asking blessings upon our parish.
Collection for the Church in Latin America will be taken next weekend. Please be as generous as you can.
I have great joy in welcoming to St. Bernardine Parish Rev. Robert Irwin, a priest in the Diocese of Boise, Idaho. Fr. Irwin is studying Clinical Pastoral Education at Loyola University Medical Center and was in need to find a place to live. Our location is just perfect for his need, and he asked me to give him board here at St. Bernardine. I believe it is going to be a win-win situation. Fr. Robert will have a comfortable accommodation, and I will have some company and ministerial help if needed. Welcome Fr. Robert!
Even though the Ordinary Time sounds just ordinary, there is nothing like “ordinary time” in the liturgy of the Church and in the life of the Christians. Every day is a generous gift of God, our loving and merciful Father. Every day gives us an opportunity to accept God’s love and multiply it by loving others. May God bless all of us in this very special time.
