Both today and next Sunday the Gospel redings describe Jesus calling his disciples. In today’s passage from John, John the Baptist leads two of his disciples to Jesus. Jesus invites them to follow him and they do, choosing not only to remain with him but also to invite others in turn. In the first reading, Samuel is called to serve the Lord and he too responds affirmatively. Each one provides an example to us today.
The Christmas Season liturgy is ended. Until Ash Wednesday we will be in Ordinary Time. One more time I would like to give thanks to all who were involved in decorating the church and liturgy. Well Done! Thanks for your participation in masses and your generosity. This year’s Christmas collection ($15,894.00) was $1,846.00 higher than the collection last year. Thank you!
Good news to share! With the leftover proceeds from our Annual Game Day, I have decided to have the church vestibule “freshened up.” Painting began this week, and it already looks so much brighter! The scope of this painting will be to paint the walls all the way up to the choir loft, the ceiling and the trim. The bathroom in the vestibule will also get a fresh coat of paint. Along with the refurbished doors and new floor mats, the entrance to our church continues to look beautiful.
Jason Fox, the contractor who scraped and painted the church windows, was chosen to paint the vestibule. Jason is a local businessman and does a great job. The price quoted for painting the vestibule is $1,700.00.
The first disciples follow Jesus and brought others to him. The Lord continually calls us. How do we respond?
