Pastor’s Desk: January 28th 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners,

Fr. Stanislaw Kuca

Fr. Stanislaw Kuca

On the last two Sundays we heard Jesus calling his first disciples. Over the next three Sundays, we will hear stories of Jesus healing the sick and afflicted. He is just beginning his public ministry, but as he drives out demons and heals lepers his renown and his popularity increase quickly. In today’s Gospel, Jesus drives out an unclean spirit. The people are astonished, not just at his actions, but also how he taught with such authority.

Last Sunday at the 10:30 Family Mass, seven of our second grade RE students were officially introduced to the parish at the beginning of their direct preparation to the First Communion. Please keep them and their families in your prayers.

At all masses next weekend, we will have a sacramental blessing of the throats. Traditionally this blessing is celebrated the Sunday close to February 3rd, the feast day of Saint Blaise of Sebaste.

This weekend is the Announcement Weekend of the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA). Its theme is: “Come, Follow Me.” The ACA helps fund the ongoing operating expenses of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Each year, gifts to the (ACA) support the schools, programs, agencies and ministries that serve the educational, physical and spiritual needs of the people of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Next weekend we will fill out our pledges for the 2018 Catholic Appeal.

Our Parish Lenten Mission will take place from Monday, February 19th to Wednesday, February 21st. We will meet in the church at 7:00 P.M. The mission will be led by Rev. William T. Corcoran, Ph.D., pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Orland Hills. Fr. Corcoran will also preach at all Masses on the weekend of February 17th and 18th. Please save the dates and keep Fr. Corcoran in your prayers.

Thank God snow blizzards bypassed our area. Let us keep in our prayers those who were affected by the harsh weather last week.

 God bless you,

 Fr. Stan
