Today marks a bittersweet day for the apostles. On the one hand, the Risen Lord is now ascended to be with the Father in heaven. On the other hand, he is no longer physically present on earth with them. Christ is – and will always be – the head of the Church, but before he ascended he placed it in the hands of the disciples. Today, we the Church celebrate Christ’s ascension by carrying on the mission of the first disciples: witnessing to the Risen Lord to the ends of the earth.
Fearon Hall will soon be ready to use, and it gives us an opportunity to gather together and celebrate its re-opening. The party will be organized on Saturday, June 29th in the same formula we usually celebrate St. Bernardine Day. The Big Cash Raffle is back as well! Tickets are available for purchase ($20.00 each or 3 for $50.00), with a grand prize of $2,500.00! Raffle tickets can be purchased at the vestibule after all masses. Please see the bulletin for more details.
Next week a second collection will be taken for healthcare, wellness, and retirement for the priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Your generosity impacts 500 active and 225 retired archdiocesan priests. Please be as generous as you can.
This year we have again an opportunity to make some money by working on Northerly Island.
Volunteers are needed on the following dates:
June 4, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29
July 5, 11, 13, 21, 27, 28, 31
August 14, 17
In the vestibule, you will find a sign-up calendar. I volunteered on May 23rd. It was a very interesting experience, and I’m sure it was not my last time this Summer. Take a chance!
Enjoy the Summer!
