“Follow me,” Jesus says to a potential disciple he encounters on his journey to Jerusalem. “Follow me,” Elijah says to Elisha as he plowed his field. God’s call is a daunting invitation and demands a wholehearted commitment. Some accept; others cannot bring themselves to commit. We too are called to be disciples, to live our lives accordingly to the Gospel. “Follow me,” Jesus challenges us. How do we respond?
The Peter’s Pence Collection (which is taken up this weekend) has ancient roots that reach all the way back to New Testament times. The early Christians provided material support that the disciples could distribute to those in need. Today the Peter’s Pence collection is the way we, as members of the Catholic Church, unite ourselves to the concerns of the Holy Father. Donations to this collection support the charitable works of Pope Francis for the relief of those most needed. There are flyers at the exits.
The finishing touches in Fearon Hall will be complete this week and will be done in time for our “Grand Re-opening” on Saturday, June 29th. We still need to put up the refurbished curtains and then do general clean up from the construction. Still to be finished: window coverings and installation of the TVs. Window coverings – We have placed temporary window coverings on the windows until the permanent ones come in. TV’s – The televisions used in our annual Game Day will be installed along the walls. With the addition of Wi-Fi and cable, our Hall will be a great meeting place not only for our parish but for Archdiocesan events as well. Coming this fall! Our next step in the renovation process will be to update the kitchen and the cafeteria. Work will start in September and include a new ceiling, paint, cabinets (kitchen) and floor (kitchen).
