Every Sunday we are invited anew to follow Jesus. No matter how our limitations or impediments may be, Jesus calls us to follow him. Sometimes even when we don’t realize it we are being called. In the Gospel today, we hear Jesus calls Bartimaeus as well. After receiving the gift of sight, Bartimaeus responds to Jesus’ call and follows him. As we gather in Jesus’ name today, let us consider how he is calling us.
This coming Thursday we will celebrate All Saints Day followed by All Souls’ Day on Friday. All Saints is a celebration of the communion of saints, those people we believe are in heaven. All Souls’ Day is a day to pray for all souls.
On All Souls’ Day Catholic churches have a Book of Dead, in which parishioners have an opportunity to write the names of relatives to be remembered. That’s placed near the altar through the month of November. In our Church the Book of the Dead will be exposed in front of Mary’s altar. Feel free to write in it names of your faithful departed. On All Souls’ evening we will have a special memorial Mass at 7:00 pm. During this mass we will pray for our faithful departed, especially those who passed away last year.
Beginning on All Saints Day, November 1st, and throughout the month of November, we invite parishioners to bring pictures of your deceased loved ones and place them on Mary’s altar. Please be sure to label the back of your photo with your name, address and phone number.
Big thanks to everyone who filled out my evaluation form. To date we had 47 forms filled out on-line and 27 printed. St. Bernardine has had the greatest response out of 11 local parishes where priests are being evaluated. Again I’m impressed and thank you for your plentiful response.
CCD Pancake Breakfast is TODAY, October 18th, 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. Please come, be hungry and support our CCD program.
30th Annual Game Day will be on Sunday, November 11th. We have a special price for our parishioners – $15.00. You can buy tickets at the door after every mass.
Last Sunday, the second collection was taken for world missions. We collected $1,239.15. Thank you for your generosity.
Let the joyful celebration of the feast of All Saints strengthen our faith in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come, which we profess every Sunday.
God bless you,
