“If we know one another, God remains in us,” we sing before the Gospel reading today. How appropriate on this Respect Life Sunday. All life, everyone’s life, is a gift from God, a gift given out of love by our Creator. Therefore, all life is precious in God’s eyes. If all life is precious, all life is worthy of our love. With that attitude and with God remaining in us, we can sing the second half of the Gospel acclamation, “and God’s love is brought to perfection in us.”
In the Archdiocese of Chicago October is the month when mass participants are counted. Additionally, this year every parish is asked to write the number of children enrolled in the Religious Education Program. So it is very important that you worship here at St. Bernardine this month. Last year our October Count oscillated around 350 mass participants per weekend. Hopefully this year our numbers will not drop down.
The Religious Ed Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for October 28th, and our 30th Annual Game Day is set for November 11th. If you would like to help with any of these events, please call the office and let us know!
According to Archdiocesan policies, priests are evaluated by parishioners every 5 years. This time I ask you to participate in my evaluation. It will help me to see and reflect on my ministry and perhaps improve areas where you expect me to be better. In the Chimes (page 7) you will find instructions how to do it on-line. For those who do not have easy access to internet, printed evaluation forms are available at the exits. Please fill it out and return it in a week. Thank all of you for your cooperation.
Boys and girls 4th grade and older who wish to be trained to be altar servers, please call the Rectory.
God bless you,
