We may have just been here last week, but maybe it’s been many weeks or even many years. No matter how long it’s been, we can be assured that God is eager to welcome us back, today or any time. As we prepare to celebrate the Eucharist together, let us call back those times when we have strayed from God’s embrace and thank God for the assurance of reconciliation.
We are moving ahead with the renovations in our parish meeting space! For those of you who attended mass in Fearon Hall over the summer, you have seen and heard our new audio/visual system. This system, which will also extend to the cafeteria (audio only), came at a cost of $34,000.00 and included the sound system, projector, and the 14ˊ x 8ˊ screen. These will all be put to good use this year as we intend to have parish “movie nights.” We hope to start our movie nights in December with a Christmas favorite – “Home Alone.” More to come on “movie nights” later.
Water seeping into the Hall during heavy rainfalls continued to be a problem. While the seepage is not as bad as it used to be, it is still a problem. Hoping to avoid this problem altogether, we have had the catch basins in the school parking lot area enlarged. This was at a cost of $9,000.00.
Last week we started projects in our cafeteria and kitchen. All work is supposed to be finished by the end of October, and we will be ready to use them for Kingdom Retreat, Game Day and other parish purposes.
If you or someone you know is interested in joining RCIA either as a candidate or sponsor, please call the rectory. Classes will start at the end of September.
Next week the second collection will be taken for Mundelein Seminary. Forty-six seminarians are preparing to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Our prayers and financial support are very important to a proper formation of new priests who will minister to the faithful people of the Archdiocese of Chicago. In the Chimes, you can find a letter from Cardinal Cupich encouraging us to support our seminary.
The Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass was celebrated at St. John Brebeuf Church last Sunday. Congratulations to our two couples: Michael and Debbie Espinosa and Jim and Kathy Plepel who participated in this Mass. May God bless you abundantly for many years to come. Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary!
May God bless us for the end of the Summer.
