As summer turns to autumn, many of the Gospel selections we hear concern themselves with the Last Judgment. Our worthiness for eternal life in heaven can be indicated by the way we treat each other and the way we handle our possessions. As we celebrate today’s Eucharist, let us reflect on whether we are using our wealth for the benefit of others or if our pursuit of wealth is blinding us to the needs of our neighbor.
If you or someone you know is interested in joining RCIA either as a candidate or sponsor, please call the rectory. Classes will start at the end of September.
This week the second collection is taken for Mundelein Seminary. Forty-six seminarians are preparing for the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Our prayers and financial support are very important to a proper formation of new priests who will minister to the faithful people of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Last week’s Chimes included a letter from Cardinal Cupich encouraging us to support our seminary.
My friend Fr. Toni Bury, pastor of St. Bruno Parish, Chicago, asked me for a favor. St. Bruno School participates in the “Amazon Gives” program. Although we don’t have a parish school any longer we can help another Catholic school by participation in this program. If you are interested, please find more information in the Chimes.
Two weeks ago our second collection was taken for St. Vincent de Paul Society. On behalf of St. Vincent DePaul members I would like to say big thanks for your very generous donations! In two weeks we collected $4,500.00. This money will be wisely used for helping the poor and the needy. Thank you.
The last days of summer were very nice! God in His goodness gave us beautiful weather. May the Lord in his goodness bless all of us for the new season. Happy Autumn!
